A few last thoughts

It's well beyond the fast now, at least 15 days or more. Back to normal eating.
I did 100% raw up until a couple of days ago.
As it turns out my body type is not happy with a number of vegetables in their raw state, specifically all cruciferous veggies. That includes cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach etc. I can't digest these veggies so I end up with bloating and terrible gas pain. Never had any problems with my previous diet and am almost always gas free.
According to auryvedic medicines Dosha system I am Pitta/Vata constitution and Vata specifically cannot digest crucifeorus veggies raw. So being on an all raw foods diet is not the right way to eat for this body type. These veggies need to be lightly steamed so that they can be digested more easily.
I am going back to my pre fast diet now, of  quinoa, steamed veggies, raw veggies, fruits, occasional sprouted grain bread, nuts and nut butters. This diet has worked for me for years and I feel very good when I eat this way.
I will juice again periodically when it feels right for my body. Most likely I will not juice for this length of time. 21 Days is good for long term fasting.

The conclusion I have come to is that we are all so different and our bodies each unique and it is clearly unrealistic to think that one blanket diet will work well for everyone. I thought I could go 100% raw until I tried it and felt like I was going to blow up with gas!! yikes that can't be good for my body!
Eating less, adding more raw, juicing and fasting for cleansing the body are good measures to increase vitality and longevity.

Day Forty

Did 10 days raw food from Day 30 to 40 and have eased back into eating some cooked food. The majority of my diet is raw, salads, fruit, all kinds of veggies nuts, nut butters, tahini based salad dressings.
I actually prefer to eat this way now and feel better when the bulk of my food is living.

It does take a while to transition back to "normal" eating and the amount of food the body can handle is very small. I get full so quickly.

All in all fasting was awesome and I will be doing it again.

Day Thirty one

Eating raw veggies/fruits now.

Did my first real workout since the fast and wow did it feel good. I have lost some strength but that will come back fast. Enjoyed a salad post workout made with soft tofu, spinach, lemon, balsamic, olive oil, garlic and tahini. The soft tofu is really clean and easy for my body to digest. It was so good. My portions have changed dramatically, I feel full on very little food.

It is interesting to have experienced different reactions from people regarding fasting. Many people have no idea about it and think it is some radical unhealthy crazy activity... they equate it with starvation. I am always amazed at how quick people are to judge something they know absolutely nothing about.
And then there are those who may know nothing about fasting but are intrigued, interested, open to learning and discovering something new.

What I have to say about this experience is that it changed my life, I was “healthy” before but I am certain my body was holding a lot of toxins (in those stubborn fat cells) and my liver was over taxed. All that has been flushed out of my system for good. I thought my eating habits were good but now that I am eating living foods all the time I see there was room for improvement. My skin is better, my energy is better, no more headaches, I have clarity of mind, and I just feel so good in my own skin. Can’t say I felt so prior to this adventure. There is an increase in vitality and I feel happy with my life in all ways.

Shout out to the nay sayers! How can feeling better than ever be unhealthy???

Now that I know just how amazing juice fasting and water fasting is for healing and regenerating the body I will do maintenance fasting for the remainder of my time on this planet.
Here’s what I plan to do…Two 10 day juice fasts per year when I feel the need for it (most likely spring and fall) 3-4 days per month juice/water fast.
With all the cleansing I have done over the years I have to say this was the most effective and powerful for me and I used no herbs at all only vegetable nutrients. It was safe and for the most part provided me with more than enough energy to continue on with my active lifestyle.

As I learned on this fast unless I am totally sedentary (probably not going to happen) any fast over 21 days is too much for me. I felt great up until the last five days, which were a struggle for energy that I need to do my work.
Fasting for 10 days is a great way to keep up with a clean system provided you keep a good diet of mainly fresh living foods. Fasting is a preventative health measure.
Longer fasts have their place for deeper healing and spiritual purposes.

As for the spiritual aspect of fasting I don’t feel any more spiritual than I did before, my practice is the same. Perhaps the more noticeable thing would be the increase in clarity and in truly being in the moment ….always.

When you abstain from food and control your mind and all it’s wants and desires it gives you a real sense of power, who you are, your spirit is not your mind and what you think. While fasting the higher self is allowed to be in control and this opens a space for authenticity.

After all we are not these fleshy bodies. We do need to honor our bodies and what we put in them so they will function optimally for our purpose and missions on this earth.

It is evident in the world when you look at all the DIS -EASE, that the masses are entirely disconnected from themselves (GOD, Source energy) and caught up in the material world ever striving for the empty rewards of money and possessions. Seeking happiness from outside one self in things, people, food, drugs, sex, material power. It’s a lost cause.

Here is some information about fasting and it’s benefits ….the following text is copied from the site http://www.juicefastforhealth.com/fasting.html

*Benefits of Juice Fasting
Doctors today are saying that one of the major reasons more people are getting unhealthy and sick is due to our overall "waning immune system." One of the greatest results that following a fast can achieve for you is an enhanced immune system, which will help keep you from illness and disease.

Boosting Your Immune System
Most of the processed foods eaten in today's society produces an acid ash in our systems. The alkalizing foods, such as greens, veggies and the non-sweet fruits, certain grains and nuts, and other whole, natural foods, are often not as prevalent in our diets as is necessary. Since we are over 70% water, our internal fluids need to be kept pH neutral just as any backyard swimming pool. Our miraculous bodies are at work constantly to keep our internal world neutrally balanced, but when more acids accumulate in our body than our natural elimination systems can discharge, we start to become too acidic.

Eventually our cells are drowning in acid wastes, our system begins to slow down and we literally begin to slowly decay from the inside out. We begin to have overgrown amounts of yeasts and fungi, and as they devour the excess sugars and acids, we enter the initial stages of deterioration. We get ill and have low energy. We have aches and pains, don't sleep well, can't focus, have poor memory and arthritis. Our immune system by this time has become greatly weakened and our body shows signs of imbalance. Fortunately, it is reversible, simply by changing your internal terrain through fasting and slowly adjusting to healthier foods.

There are many benefits that can be achieved through fasting, including:
• a cleansed and regulated colon,
• weight loss (fat, not water),
• balanced pH and blood sugar levels,
• strengthened immune system,
• increased mental clarity,
• loss of cravings for sugar and other stimulants,
• cellular cleansing and rebuilding,
• diminished toxin load,
• diminished pains and allergies (some disappear completely)
• blood, tissue and organ cleansing,
• restored liver function capacity,
• increased energy levels,
• and an enhanced sense of joy and lightness is usually experienced.

Fresh Vegetable Juices Provide Everything Your Body Needs
Juices provide plenty of fresh natural sugars, salts, enzymes, electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and probiotics, all in their appropriate proportions, for the rebuilding your body will be doing during a fast. Because juices require minimal digestion and are readily absorbed into the system, they do not interfere with the need for the digestive system to be almost completely shut down, which leaves the body's energy available for the deep cleansing and rebuilding activities of a fast.
Juices also provide enough fluids to ensure the colon becomes thoroughly washed, while simultaneously allowing one to feel satisfied and never hungry.

A Penny for Prevention is Better Than a Pound for Cure
Health care today can be an extremely costly undertaking, once you're sick. Why allow yourself to get sick in the first place? The body is amazingly resilient, and with a little care it will serve you well for a long time. Honor your body and your life by spending a little time and money to keep it healthy to begin with, instead of waiting til it's too late! Ideally, one should fast twice a year, preferably once in the Spring and once in the Fall. If you can discipline yourself to do it at home, fantastic! *end quote

Day Thirty

Photo taken today at Jerhico Beach

Back to eating solid veggies and fruits and it sure takes a lot of chewing! My jaw gets tired since it's been out of use for so long.

The fast was really awesome and has changed my outlook on food. I am not interested in eating anything other then fresh salad and fruit at the moment...suppose this may shift as time moves forward.

Day Twenty Eight

Gearing up for coming off the fast.

Did some weights today, yoga and cardio. I just couldn't wait to work my muscles. I only trained legs and decreased the weight a little since It's been 4 weeks. It felt soooo good. Ah! Needed that.

40 days is an eternity for me not to workout. It's murder. That's it, I am done the "juicing only" part of my fast on day 30. Going to eat watermelon, drink juices and eat greens, and some tahini for protein for the last 10 days.
Been thinking about fasting one day a week or a few days every month for maintenance. Now that I've had this experience that will be very easy to do.

Thinking about taking a dance class soon, I wanted to do ballroom because it relates to the style of figure skating I do but now am thinking to take Hip Hop instead. I love hip hop and dancing. Once you have the basics down you can develop your own style and there is no limitation to what you can create. It's free and the music is so fine.

Day Twenty Seven

Yesterday I felt so tired and weak so I ate an apple and a small amount of baby spinach with olive oil and lemon.
It was too late to juice and I was so exhausted from training. I needed iron bad so that is why the spinach.
Felt better after this and it was the right thing to do.
Not sure if this means my fast has been broken? Maybe just interrupted.

On the Raw Food lifestyle. I have been researching more and discovered that there are so many different styles of this lifestyle. Some are strictly vegan, while others consume raw meat, fish, eggs and dairy (yogurt).

It is always best to be in tune to your body and listen to it's needs.

As with living a raw food lifesytle it is my perception that everything should be in moderation and a strict raw diet is not for everyone. Certain nutrients are not bio available in some foods when raw, for example the lycopene in tomato's is not released until it has been cooked.
Personally, I need to continue to eat legumes, grains like brown rice and quinoa cooked and I think there is room for that. Things like fish (which I love) need to be cooked as well, the risk of parasites and other nasty things are higher when fish is consumed raw, and I don't like raw flesh.
As an athlete, I require good sources of lean protein and when I was training in ice dance 25+ hours per week I got my protein from legumes, fish, nuts and yogurt mainly and this was perfect for my body. I know that some athletes are fine on raw food alone with no animal protein at all but I don't think it's for me.

All things in moderation.

I really, really miss working out, training my muscles...god it feels like forever since I pushed a weight. I want to get back at it next week so I am going to have to figure out some source of protein. Maybe hemp powder in a smoothie.
Looks like I'm going to start coming off the fast for real after day 30. My body is saying enough.

I am now wearing a size 7 jean! Before the fast I was at a size 10. Bonus.

Day Twenty Five

15 days left!

Feeling amazing today. Very active day, with clients and then cruising all over downtown (on foot). There's a real buzz going on in the city right now building to the Olympics. Busy busy.

Yesterday I was feeling kind of weak towards the end of the day and had the feeling I needed some iron. I went out to buy black cherry juice (good source of iron) and ended up buying prune juice of all things (also high in iron).
Prune juice has a laxative affect on the colon. SO I decided to drink the entire litre throughout the late afternoon into the early evening and yup it's a powerful laxative! I'm certain whatever was left in my colon has been dealt with!

Made a big mistake today.
Woke up this morning and didn't feel hungry so I just had lemon water and cayenne, did 7 or 8k with my client and then more running around. By 2pm I needed something but was not home and decided to grab a carrot and beet at this Jugo Juice place as there was no other option. When I asked if they used organic produce and the answer was no... went ahead anyways as I was in a hurry and had a lot of leg work ahead of me.

As I watched the girl make my juice she pulled out carrots the size of baseball bats and I knew right then this was GMO (genetically modified or as I like to call it "frankenfood") produce and trouble was in my immediate future.
Oh well what can you do, right, I'm thinking it can't be THAT bad.

Let me say this, it didn't taste nearly as delicious as my organic juice and left a funny bitter after taste in my mouth and throat. EEEEW. Then about an hour after taking it I started to get a headache and felt kind of icky. I haven't had a single headache since the beginning first couple of days on the fast.
Seems like it would have been better just taking in water and waiting to get organic or make my own.
When I am out and about I always get my juice at Capers/Whole Foods, it is organic and cheaper than that stupid JJ place! CRaZy.

Made a new combination tonight that I absolutely loved...celery, parsley, apple, lemon. DIVINE. I used about 10 celery stalks, a big bunch of parsley, 1 granny smith apple, 1 lemon (with rind). That's a great savory tasty green drink. BTW that made 16oz's.

Another new fav is granny smith apple and lemon...so yum. I used 6 apples and 1 lemon.

Day Twenty Four

Missed yesterdays post. It was good, busy and with moments of irritation here and there, mainly when around crowds of people...tourists! Ha! Right, the Olympics.
They are arriving in larger waves now.

Consumed the usual.

This past week has been the most challenging so far and I'm not sure why. Maybe it is a number of factors together but I think mainly because I've been so damn hungry even with the juice.

Today...did 8k or so, did some shopping for jeans, trained clients. Feeling that it is time for some rest after a busy active week. Sometimes it's hard to stop and I seem to have endless energy most of the time. Not this morning however, everything that I needed to do seemed difficult and I felt kinda sluggish and slow. The rain does not help.

When you fast for this long it can get a little boring. After a while you start to get sick and tired of juice and for me I crave salt and fat...like avocado, and nuts kind of fat. I don't have a sweet tooth at all so the carrot and beet is really sweet for me which is why I like to add celery and or cucumber to tone it down. I like celery juice on it's own or with spinach and it's high in sodium so that takes care of my salt needs. Electrolytes.
Daily intake of fresh carrot and beet is so good for you, both are very high in antioxidants and together they act to clean and build the blood flushing out all the toxins and nasty things in the bloodstream. Beets juice is used to heal cancer patients. It does taste really amazing too.

Now my mind is in countdown mode... 16 more days. Doesn't seem long to me. That's a really good feeling. After overcoming the intense temptation to eat on day 21 I know I've experienced the most challenging part of this and that I can make it to day 40 no sweat.

Check out this cowboy Rocco and his amazing story of transformation. I love this. I love Dr Oz.
Dr Oz turns meat eating cowboy vegan

If Rocco can wake up and change anyone can! : ) All you need is the "Fab Four": a willing spirit, a little discipline, some commitment, and perseverance.

*End Note:
This is probably the most amazing thing I have ever set out to accomplish in my life.
It is transforming me at the core of my being.

All the great masters, like Jesus, Buddha, the Yogis, Mohamed and other less known figures fasted in order to be initiated into higher states of being. It's a prerequisite.

Day Twenty Two

Busy day.

Feeling much better than yesterday and glad I got over that hurdle. I know I can make it to day 30 now and perhaps beyond.

Only had one Juice today...beet,carrot and apple, vegetable broth, water and herbal tea. Feeling the need for a break from juice and taking water, lemon and cayenne instead.

Lots of walking today (7or 8K)and some training with clients. Energy level is great.

Day Twenty One

Day from Hell.

This was the first day since the start of my fast that I wanted to eat, and almost broke down. I felt extremely hungry, was lethargic most of the day, spacey and generally uncomfortable. Not eating was making me feel soooo cranky and irritated.

I was at a Vegetarian restaurant with a friend and considered ordering a salad. I just couldn't do it. When I break my fast I want it to be a planned day and I want to do it right...gradually starting with a fruit and maybe some veggies. Not in a restaurant.
I had shitake mushroom broth while he had a spinach and mushroom pita pizza. Funnily, I was not even attracted to his food and the idea of all that cheese in my body did not produce a good feeling. WOW! The former me loved cheese.

All day I had to fight this feeling of wanting solid food. While making a juice I took a bite of a carrot, chewed it and chewed it and then spit out the pulp. Chewing was satisfying enough. Maybe that's what I need to do when these intense feelings arise. I learned that trick from the 92 day Juice Feast guy. Apparently the desire to chew is common when fasting for extended periods.

Now I am playing it by ear...I have the goal of reaching 30 days of juice only because it is in the period between day 21 and 30 where the deepest tissues in the body are cleansed. If I still feel as I did today by day 30 I have decided to break my fast for the remaining 10 days by eating watermelon and some veggies maybe carrots and celery.

Been getting comments on the changes going on in my body, people seem to really notice it in my face. Someone told me that I went from "looking" 28 to now looking 24! hahaha!! He knows my real age!! I love it!

I'll say it again...raw foods and fasting is the fountain of youth.

The body looks lean and fit and some of my clothes are too big now. : )

Pretty much having 2- 14-160z veggie juices (carrot& beet variations) a day consistently, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon. That seems enough to keep nutrients going in and to maintain a high level of fasting. Drinking a lot of vegetable broth to keep warm, water and herbal teas.

Day Twenty

Wow! It's day 20. I'm half way there.
I skipped a post yesterday. Hit a cleansing low and was feeling irritable, tired, sluggish and generally off. Old fears surfaced for clearing and that's never pleasant.I guess a deeper level of healing occurred causing these symptoms. I slept last night, hours and hours.

Today I feel fantastic and well rested...ready for the next phase of the fast. This is the time when the body goes deeper (the next 10 days) and finishes the job.

Must admit I have been really cold the past few days and it is uncomfortable. I really want to eat something warm and I am getting tired of juice juice juice juice juice. These feelings come and go.

Discovered a Raw food restaurant today downtown and it's sweet. Gorilla Food... I love this place already even though I have not eaten there...went today and had tea, chill atmosphere and good menu. Raw food is so creative. There is a raw version of almost anything you can have cooked and some of it is even served warm. This place will be one of my first dining experiences in 20 days.
Another discovery is that I can have red wine on a raw diet, organic of course. This is good news for social reasons and because I love red wine.

My biggest concern about doing the Raw lifestyle is getting cold, but I will be eating fats and all so I think it's going to be very different from fasting. Been collecting a lot of yummy recipes for raw crackers, flat breads, and tortillas. I have to have nachos and I have to have crunchy things.

Anyways, I don't expect perfection in my diet and I am OK if I eat some cooked food occasionally. As long as my diet mainly consists of living foods that is good.

Otherwise today was productive, gym, yoga, preparing the Feb Newsletter, planning etc.

Carrot and beet in the am, beet, carrot, cucumber, celery in the pm, lots of hot broth and teas and water.

Day Eighteen

Time's flying by.

Been craving nachos with lots of cheese! So I had a beet and carrot juice for lunch and a beet, pear, celery, spinach and cilantro juice for dinner.

Today is one of those days when I wish I could eat a piece of fruit, an avocado, some nuts, some solid food! It's not going to happen for another 22 days.
Quiet day, worked in the AM on my business and then watched movies all afternoon at a friends place... chill day.

Day Seventeen

Decided to do water/lemon/cayenne/raw honey today. No juice.
Doing fantastic. Still want to bite into something and looking forward to all the super yummy Raw recipes I am going to indulge in when I graduate!

Did a 10k walk this morning around Stanley Park. Got a lot of research done during the day so my brain is finished with reading and looking at the computer screen and my blackberry.

As I go deeper into this fast and feel more and more amazing I have decided to commit to converting to 100% Raw Food Diet after the 40 days. I am convinced that this is the only way to true health and vitality. Thinking back to when I was a kid, I would feed my meat to my dog under the dining table when my parents were not looking, I knew the meat was not the best for my body. You can bet I ate all my veggies and tons of them. I used to eat raw veggies and fruit out of my grandmas garden stuffing myself with so many carrots, peas, raspberries and strawberries that I'd have no room for dinner. I love raw food.

I was not ready to go 100% Raw 2 years ago when I first seriously explored this lifestyle, because at that time I had so many things going on that I could not really focus my energy.

I am doing this because it feels good.

No aches, no pains, no need for supplements, increased vitality, soaring energy, happiness, joy, bliss, I can grow most everything I eat, it's delicious, healing, nutritious and on and on.

I never felt that great even with my "healthy diet", my muscles were always tight and sore and my energy levels were average. I especially noticed this in the past 2 years after increasing chicken, fish and eggs in my diet over legumes soy and other proteins. After a while it just seems normal to feel less than amazing. Until you juice fast!

I was reading somewhere the point that we are the only species that cooks it's food...destroying the enzymes and creating toxins. Of course animals don't cook but who thinks about it right? I didn't. Animals eat raw. I think back to the horses I grew up around, how powerful, muscular and beautiful they are on a diet of hay, oats, barley, grass, water and that's it. They love apples and carrots too!
If you look back in history our ancient ancestors ate Raw foods, they also fasted and cleansed the colon on a regular basis.

It's natural and simple.

Day Sixteen

Hungry this morning!

Some things surfaced this morning while on the way to the gym, I felt irritated and slightly off, discontent. Seemed to be a busy morning with a lot of different energies out there. Anyways after the gym things shifted.

Did some intense yoga. I am self taught and do not go to classes…I love to practice on my own. I studied Hatha in depth in 1997 after tearing my left hamstring. This was just before the big yoga craze in North America.

Did some headstands and they were remarkably easy to my surprise, it’s been a few months since my last one! My balance was perfect. Practiced backbends and splits, scissor and Russian. I can do all these to the floor with the exception of my left side (skating injury torn hamstring).
The fast is helping me to be extra stretchy and supple.
I really love what is happening to my body, this layer of fat coming off is revealing long lean muscles that looked kind of bulky before…like speed skater legs!
Speaking of skating…I stopped training a couple of years ago after making Western Canada’s top competitive synchro team. A few things contributed to my having to let it go which was disappointing to say the least.
As an Ice dancer sychro was kind of fun and similar in some of the footwork but not really my thing...however making that team ( with girls more than 10 years younger than I) was a milestone for me and a confirmation of my abilities.

My life long love for Figure Skating has not vanished and I am intending to get back on the ice and get serious. It’s a big commitment of time and money.

Okay, after training clients I stopped at Whole Foods and got some organic veggies for the weekend. This is what I am drinking this weekend.

and this is what I create...

That one is beet carrot and pear. Super Yummy but a little too sweet for my taste...celery or cucumber reduces the sweet factor. Next time.

Cleaned my kitchen. Juicing is messy business. A lot of people complain about the clean up from juicing but I don’t find it too difficult or time consuming. It’s all part of the process. I think some people just find stupid things to whine about and to be dissatisfied about. When you cook you have to clean up so whats the biggie?

*Releasing toxins can also involve releasing toxic people from your life.*

I wanted to mention as part of my cleansing process I use Bentonite Clay externally and internally. This clay has magnetic properties and thus the ability to pull heavy metals out of the body. You can use it in a bath for 20 min and/or you can drink it.
When taken internally it passes through the colon, where heavy metals are stored, and binds the metals for elimination. It is important to take fiber when you drink it and drink loads of water to keep everything moving. The common fiber to take is psyllium husk, found at any health food store.

During this fast I have not used it internally but have taken a weekly soak in it. I also do a facial with it. Bathing in it makes you feel wonderful because of the minerals in it. It’s also good for getting trace minerals into the body when taken internally.

When I’m not fasting I try to drink it daily…about a teaspoon per day. It tastes like nothing. There are three types, white, green and red clays. White is the least drying on the skin but I normally use green clay because I think it has more mineral content. Could be wrong.

BTW, this is the stuff they use in spas. I’ve been doing my own “spa treatments” for years and for “dirt” ; ) cheap! I’ve also made my own facial care made with the most exquisite ingredients and 100% natural and simple. That’s a topic for another blog!
You really don’t need tons of money to pamper like Cleopatra, although money helps.

My teeth really want to bite down on food. Got a craving to eat an apple. It’s weird not being able to chew anything.
The other thing today is I am so cold, can’t seem to warm up without a bath. Wanting hot food…all I get is hot broth.

Day Fifteen

Lost another inch in the waist. My body feels completely nourished and energized by the vegetable juices. Today I had beet and carrot 2x 16oz, veggie broth, water and herbal tea.

Discovered a few days ago to make a broth out of the juice pulp. That works great and gives me a “fast worthy” warm drink that feels like I am having soup. I spice it up with cayenne, black pepper, lemon and a tiny wee bit of sea salt(need the electrolytes). Yum. I’ve also added extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to my broth, I was feeling the need for some fat in my system.

Not hungry at all today and full of energy. Did an hour cardio with one of my clients no problem and lots of other running around.

Been reading this blog tonight written by a guy who did a 92 day “juice feast” which I found interesting. He posted photos of his face from the beginning and every 10 days or so. There was such a dramatic change in his appearance at the end of his 92 days…he went from looking middle aged to looking like a young man in his early 20’s. He did not look gaunt or sickly, he looked vibrant. Amazing. No doubt with all those nutrients going straight into your blood nourishing the cells and regenerating tissue at the core.

People have been noticing that I am losing weight…I know it because my “skinny jeans” are fitting perfectly. It’s not dramatic but that stubborn fat that’s been on my body for years is melting away. That weight that won’t go no matter how hard you train and how disciplined you are with food. Hooray for that! Good riddance and bring on my Victoria Secret body. Ok I am getting off track as this is not the purpose of this fast, just a perk!

Fasting slows you down, makes you more pleasant and happier all around. I was smiling a lot today and noticing things I have missed before because I was caught up in my thoughts, worries, stresses. Everything feels easy now. I have faith in what I am doing and in the process of life, and I am always guided to what I need when I need it. Life is very simple if we stop complicating it.

Funnily the 92 day Juice feast guy had the exact same experience I have had with the cells of the body vibrating and buzzing. Nice confirmation.

Juice Fasting = RADIANT health

Day Fourteen

Another day.
Things were good today, lots of energy. Did an hour of cardio (speed walk) with client and 45 min of yoga. Running all over the place today no problem.
The hip flexor was absolutely fine.

Thought I should mention the watermelon cleanse I did two years ago for 3 weeks. I had a severe healing crisis during this cleanse and as a result was very sick and flat out. The reason this fast is so easy for me with virtually no healing symptoms is because of that cleanse. It was the most intense experience and felt like I was going to die before I felt better. Guess I paid my dues…haha!

So now back to today. Had some past emotional trauma stuff surface for release. Came out of nowhere, I acknowledged it, felt it, forgave those involved and let it go.

It fascinates me how the healing process comes in stages or waves, so that you can address it, deal with it and move on to the next thing. Cleansing and fasting heals everything from emotional pain to physical pain, disease trauma etc. Amazing.

Sleep has been good and very deep. Slept through some intense wind the other night that woke many people. I have been sleeping a lot. In the beginning I was under the impression that I needed less sleep but that was only temporary.

Consumed… Beet and carrot juice midday and evening.

About food…I only think about it occasionally and sometimes when I am cutting up my veggies for juicing I forget that I can’t have solid food (even veggies) and catch myself wanting to munch on a piece of celery or carrot. STOP.

Day Thirteen

No time to post yesterday. It's actually day 14 as I write this.

Yesterday was quiet and I felt tired. Strained my R. hip flexor somehow so had a slight pain walking.

Tried juiced red cabbage with other veggies and it was good but upset my stomach. Too much sulfur...gassy stuff. Going to stick to carrot and beet, in my opinion it is the best. Tastes so delicious and is a very powerful cleanser.

Love having a juicer!!

Day Twelve

This is becoming normal to me...almost forgot what day I'm on.

Feeling really amazing, very happy and peaceful.

Had to move a button over on a fitted suit jacket I have by an inch. Luckily the design is such that I could do this. At the end of this journey I will be in need of a new wardrobe. When I started I was anywhere from size 8-10 depending on the designer.

I am thinking of becoming a partial raw foodist at the completion of the 40 days. The thought of eating heavy foods with less nutritional value and high calories makes me feel sick to my stomach.
My diet before this consisted mostly of brown rice, veggies, lentils, fish, eggs, occasionally chicken breast plain yogurt and nut butters, olive oil, occasional whole wheat pasta and sprouted grain bread in moderation.
I have had this simple healthy diet for years.

Was thinking that I should consume only one cooked meal a day and the rest raw and juices. I have an excellent Raw Food book with amazing recipes for anything and everything you can have cooked. For example, angel hair pasta (squash), burrito, Pesto, and my fav making cheese spread out of cashews, sea salt, black pepper and lemon juice. Yum! The book is called "Ani's raw food kitchen" Ani Phyo.

The author is out of California and she has some fantastic creative DELICIOUS ideas about creating live food.
I was thinking about going down this path a couple of years ago and it wasn't the time I suppose because I was not prepared for the raw food diet commitment.

Looking for the fountain of youth? There it is...RAW FOODS grown in the earth.

Consumed the usual today...water, herbal tea, veggie juice.

Finally got that juicer!

Food for thought ; )...a water only fast is a great idea and I think it is a good thing to do one day a week but for most people long term water only fast is impractical unless your going to climb up the mountain and meditate for 40 days. If you have to work and live life it is a good idea, I think, to at least have fresh veggie juices for energy. Juice fasting is just as "valid" as water only and you get the added benefits of all those anti oxidants going straight into the bloodstream and doing their magic cleansing and healing. I could see myself water fasting 3-4 days in a row per month as maintenance.

Had some trippy moments today while in meditation...my cells were buzzing/vibrating again and nothing seemed solid in my "solid apartment", including me. It's like being able to see the molecules moving in solid objects. I have been able to see this before the fast, it just seems more intense now. Liking this. It's all energy in different form.

God realization is better than any recreational drug. : )

One last thing...I live in paradise...Vancouver is paradise because we are so close to nature. I chose to live right beside the ocean and near the living breathing forest. This is what has kept me here all these years. I don't know anywhere on the earth like this place.
The earth is magical and beautiful and my deepest wish is that humanity will soon recognize this and remember that we are part of this living planet and to have reverence for our home and to co create with nature.

We MUST honor mother earth if we expect to live on her.

Day Eleven

Good day.
Worked out with client and did a lot of running around. Feeling really great and amazed that I've had very little cleansing symptoms...none since the first few days. I wonder when it's going to hit me at a deeper level.

I did take juices today because of the level of activity.

Carrot/cucumber 8 oz
beet/carrot/cucumber celery 16 oz
celery/cucumber/green pepper 16 oz

That seems like a lot of juice to me and fills me up.

I guess this is turning into a juice fast and that's okay because my lifestyle is too active for just water.

Day Ten

Today was really good. Had tons of energy all day and then hit a slump around 7pm.
Went the beach this morning to get some sunshine…was an absolutely gorgeous day.
While training a client today I did some squats with him (no weight) just to see how it would feel and it felt good.

Discovered why I was so damn hungry yesterday as compared to earlier days…the carrot/beet juice. It’s so sweet and makes me hungry. I need to mix it with other veggies to balance it out.

Another thing I haven’t been doing is cayenne pepper in my lemon water. I’m not doing the master cleanse which is lemon cayenne and maple syrup but I do drink a lot of lemon water. Last night I made a batch and added the cayenne. Cayenne pepper suppresses the appetite so my hunger went away last night and didn’t come back until the morning. That helps.

Consumed today…carrot juice 16oz and a *veggie juice 16oz, water and herbal tea.

*The veggie juice recipe
lemon
celery (I stalk)
cucumber
¼ avocado
red onion
water
cayenne pepper

I think the veggie juice was a mistake, I didn’t feel that great after… really full and kind of tired. It tasted super yummy though. Have a feeling the avocado and onion were not the best thing for a fast! Trial and error. I found this recipe somewhere and it sounded so good…maybe when I am not fasting.

Need a solution to the juicing thing. I love the carrot and beet but it is so sweet and spikes up the insulin levels in the body and can cause hypoglycemic reaction.

Tomorrow I am just having lemon cayenne water.

My body feels really great, no tension and even the tightness in my hamstrings (my problem area) is almost completely gone.

Today at the gym I could barely stand the smells around me. My sense of smell is so acute that I smell everything. Kinda gross…rather not smell peoples sweat, B.O.

Overall I feel light energetic and free! It’s much easier to stay clear and focused and I really enjoying the richness of each moment.

I can tell that this process is healing deep layers of my body and my soul. I am much calmer.

*Side note ~We eat WAY too much food in the west, it’s beyond ridiculous. To maintain a healthy body and appropriate weight we don’t need that much food. We’re not meant to be fat and it’s killing us.

Most peoples diets are crap, fast food and over processed chemical laden junk. It’s no wonder there is so much disease.

The North American disease...gluttony and greed…two of the seven deadly sins right?

Day Nine

New Moon today.

Dreamt I was eating pasta, bread, olives and red wine. At least I can dream about eating.
Slept and slept last night and felt well rested in the morning.

Had a business disappointment today and have been trying to focus on my goals and intentions, not letting anything get me down or distract me from my purpose.
Feeling fine physically, although I am hungry. Whatever...it will pass.
Lost an inch in my waist in one week. Have to add more juices towards the end of the fast so I don't get too skinny.

The body is really intelligent and seems to know exactly what to do. The weight loss is gradual and not in the muscle. I was reading that the muscle fibers remain the same during a fast, they do shrink in size but they dont go anywhere. That means when you resume a regular diet and training the muscle memory kicks in and pumps up those fibers.
We have amazing bodies.

Lots of running around today as usual. Had some carrot and cucumber juice 16oz and black cherry diluted 50/50 with water. Lots of water and herbals teas.

Have to say the last couple of days I've been feeling a little more tired than during the first 4 or 5 days.

No aches and pains...just hunger pains! Mind over matter.

With the new moon energy it's time to set intentions into motion, launch new projects and manifest the reality we want. Great energy to spend time in meditation and prayer.

Really really really hungry today. I have to tell my body to settle down and harness the power of my mind to disregard the non stop nagging of my stomach and my desires today.
Must have been that dream! lol!

Day Eight

Easy day, lots of energy. A friend of mine who hasn't seen me since the day I started said I look “all shiny”. That’s cool. I feel “all shiny”.

Nothing major going on today, rainy windy unpleasant Vancouver day.

Energy started to drop in the early evening and was feeling a little grumpy that I can’t eat and missing my coffee.

My body doesn’t want the food that my mind wants.

It’s like meditation…the mind is having its thoughts, in this case thoughts of food and the higher self keeps stepping in to bring the mind back into focus.

Random things were popping into my head like hot buttered popcorn. I could see it, smell it and taste it.

I don’t eat butter, it hasn’t been part of my diet for more than 20 years.

That was the biggest challenge today…thoughts of food.

*According to Auryveda, no sexual activity during a long fast. I understand this however I have not followed it. I can say that my libido is slightly lower than normal but I think that is because of the calm and quiet in my body that doesn’t want to be disturbed. I’m not sure I can follow that one. 40 days without food is one thing but the other…maybe not. I can abstain but don’t want to. Play that one by ear.

Day Seven PART TWO

After running some errands on foot this afternoon I hit a wall and was quite tired. Realizing at that moment how much I have been doing since I started the fast it made sense. In addition I was thinking that perhaps there was a shift in the depth of the cleansing bringing on a slight response.

Napped for about an hour and some around 2 30 in the afternoon and woke up feeling great again.
In terms of feeling hungry, it is there but I am used to it now that it is kind of in the background and there are periods of time when there is nothing but quiet space.

Of course I miss food but my mind is not on food really at all. If I think about the length of the fast I wonder how I am going to cope with the boredom of my diet (since I really do adore food) and it is at this point that I remind myself to present time it and stay in the moment. Time moves so rapidly that 40 days will come fast.

Did an hour speed walk on the sea wall with one of my clients tonight and the others just trained them in the gym. I notice that I am sweating more when I exercise. My lungs felt more elastic and expanded.
According to Auryvedic medicine your not supposed to exercise or walk briskly during a fast.
Well, I am because it is my job and so far I feel fine.

Consumed…the usual H20, herbal Teas, and about a liter of fresh carrot and beet juice (increased the amount today) and some mixed fruit/veggie juice.

Have not noticed any major changes in my meditation but being in the moment all the time...so the entire day is a meditation. Whenever my mind wanders I am able to stop it immediately and stay on track. I think this has shifted for me a little.
Experiencing clearer perception and vision and my sense of smell is more pronounced.

Day Seven

Well it's day 7... hard to believe it's been that many days. I'm feeling really great. My massage last night left me tired so I went to bed kinda early and slept a long time. Very restful and deep sleep. I don't feel any hunger whatsoever and feel normal.

Apparently my fast is causing some reaction in people. One of my family members sent me an email this morning in reaction to my journey. She is very worried about me.

I need to say this...I am not Starving myself! I am doing a controlled fast for 40 days. This has been done before by many people on earth and they did not die. I can stop whenever I want, no one is forcing me to do this, it is my choice for spiritual reasons (self-discipline, heightened awareness). If at some point I feel it is not serving me I will stop the fast. It's all good and I am happy.

*There will not be weekly photos of myself because this is not necessary*

Today...
There hasn't been any decrease in my muscles and I have not been doing my yoga daily (bad). Aside from a lot of walking and yoga I haven't done anything, at the gym I am only practicing yoga no weight training...that would kill me. My energy levels are good and I tend to need a nap in the afternoon but that is not out of the ordinary for me to fade around 3-4ish.

In terms of actual weight loss who knows, I don't own a scale and don't remember the last time I weighed myself...because I don't! My doctor does it and she only sees me every few years. I can say that I feel leaner and tighter and my skin is even softer than it was before...like butter soft.....BABY skin!

I really like the way my body feels from the inside out and feel much more in tune with it and at the same time separate from it. I am not my body.

Tranquil

Day Six

A noticeable change today... I am requiring less sleep. I wake up after 5 or 6 hours of sleep feeling fully rested and really amazing. No foggy mornings. It’s clear and bright.

My energy levels are through the roof as well resulting in an inability to get to sleep before 1 am. We’ll see if this is constant over time.

Last night while trying to force myself to sleep I could feel my cells vibrating, like a buzzing feeling through the body. I am guessing that I am tuning into the energy circuitry in my body and feeling the impulses in all my cells. Now that the body is not so busy dealing with food it can heal and regenerate the cells more rapidly.

Fasting frees the body to expend energy on deep healing and cleansing of toxins in our cells that have been there since birth. The longer the fast (over 21 and up to 40 days) the deeper the affects of the detoxification and regeneration.
You could compare it to re booting a computer, or better reformatting the hard drive and starting fresh.

When not overworked trying to digest and assimilate all the foods we eat daily it has time to focus on other areas of the body and intelligently goes into self healing mode.

The body feels quiet and very in tune.

Symptoms today, nothing. No headaches and no aches and pains.

Clarity.

Consumed today: Blueberry Pomegranate juice (all natural no sugars or weird chemicals added) mixed half with water. Upon waking.
The usual, 3-4 liters of H20, Herbal teas, Carrot and Beet juice.

I’ve pretty much decided that I am going to consume some fruit and vegetable juices in my fast because I am so active. Looks like I will be getting a juicer from a friend of mine so that’s sweet.

Liberation
Something profound is occurring in only 6 days.
I am in control of my body.
There is a sense of lightness and all the pain in my shoulders is gone, as a matter of fact there is no pain or tight muscles at all today.
Also noticing a slight increase in muscle definition.

A side note: today I was intuitively guided to a book on Ayurvedic living, it's called "Dhanwantari, A complete guide to the Ayurvedic life" The authors name is Harish Johari.
Dhanwantari is the Hindu god of Medicine.

I picked up the book and the first page I flipped to was Chapter 10 - Fasting: Reprogramming the Organism.

Love the Intuition!

"The recommended term for a healing fast is 7-40 days. Seven days is the minimum period required for clearing the immediate effects of other foods from the system: three days to complete digestion, three additional days to cleanse chemicals from the bloodstream, and the seventh day to enable the system to attain equilibrium.
The optimum time period is from 21-40 days. Fasting for this timespan not only cleanses the system, but allows the digestive tract ample time to recuperate from the damage inflicted by poor eating habits, overindulgence in alcohol, excessive sexual discharge, irregular life schedule, and chronic disorders such as gastritis and indigestion." (Page 117,Chapter 10)

***One more thing, I do not take any pharmaceuticals or other drugs. I thought this important to mention as that would alter the cleansing effect, producing more wild detoxing symptoms.
Doing a 40 day fast is not for everyone, and is certainly not something one would do having never cleansed before and/or if someone has serious medical condition.

Day Five

There are moments when I think to myself I must be crazy to be doing this... LOL!

Nope I am not.

So today started off waking from an AMAZING sleep. Got up clear, well rested, the body feeling good no aches no pains and YEA NO HEADACHE!
I got up and did the usual morning things that I do and then worked on marketing stuff for my business til about 1pm.

Met up with a friend for tea (herbal for me) and then got home around 3pm when I started to feel tired.
All day I had only water and lemon and a herbal tea so when I got home I decided to have more carrot and beet juice (OMG it is sooooo amazing...like heaven).

Pretty easy day, not much going on although I started to notice changes in my body as did my masseuse. We noticed a slight tightening of the skin and more definition of my muscles.
My skin is good normally but it is becoming even more youthful...like my 16 year old body kinda youthful. That is crazy shit. And a crazy kinda shit I don't mind at all.

I should mention that before embarking on this journey I was concerned about losing too much weight as I don't have any to lose. Of course I have a little bit of body fat but no more than 5 extra pounds of it and a whole lot of muscle.
My fear was that I will lose not only the little fat I have but the muscle as well. This is another reason why I am tweaking the juices because I am not looking to lose weight...this is a spiritual/cleansing journey for me.

I am paying very close attention to the changes in my body and doing Yoga to maintain muscle mass. Certainly I will lose some muscle but I want to be sure that it is minimal. As for the body fat...it can go with the exception of the boobs...need those.

I feel really good today, had a very productive and focused day with very little physical anything... a little hunger pang here and there.

Food fantasies... by the way I LOVE FOOD!
Been fantasizing about fresh cucumbers, avocados, mango's, coconut, almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, kale, potatoes, vine tomatoes and the list goes on and on....and how great this is going to be when I eat again. oooolala

Day Four

I slept like a baby. I always sleep good but last night was different, 100%undisturbed, deep and I awoke feeling really good. Still a slight headache. All the tension in my shoulders is gone and there is a soreness in the trigger points from the massage.

Today was going to be a challenge. I had to go and train one of my clients whom I work out with outdoors and was concerned how my energy levels would be for this. Then I had to go to the gym for another client.

As it turns out things went pretty good with client number one, we did 60 min of speed walking and some Yoga. Suprisingly I felt fine. My next client was fine too and my energy was good. Headache still there in the background but really mild.

On my way home I really felt the need to have some kind of fruit juice. I found a black cherry juice that has nothing in it but black cherries and had that mixed half with water. I’ve been drinking it all afternoon. I needed some kind of energy since I expended a lot today. I did feel better after.

The only symptoms I am having right now are a few aches in the joints and a slight headache and tiredness. Feeling good overall. I have decided after today that on days when I have to be more active I will take juices, fresh carrot and so forth. I may eat watermelon at some point also. Just going to play it by ear and tweak it as needed.

My massuese bought me some carrot and beet juice which tasted out of this world.

By the way the Cherry Juice gave me the runs a little. I guess that is what happens when you are on only water fasting and switch to juice because it is a laxative. Needless to say I took a table spoon of psyllium husk to stop the runs. It was not excessive and was probably a good thing to clean out what was left in the colon.

*Before getting the juice I stopped at the market to get some lemons. I walked into the produce store ( all fresh produce nothing else) and the smell of the fruits and vegetables was so strong, it was as if they were calling me to eat them! I felt so hungry and wanting so much to eat this divine food. My senses were so heightened that I could actually feel the vibration of all the different fruits and veggies surrounding me, it was quite interesting. Everything looked so alive and yummy.
Got the lemons and left.

Day Three

Today was rough. I awoke with a nasty headache and noticed as I was walking to Whole Foods that I felt weak and short of breath after only a few blocks. On average I walk about 10 k a day and workout at the gym 5-6 days a week so that was kind of weird for me to feel that way from walking. I made it to whole foods fine once I got going.

Spent the day talking to people and promoting my business feeling the headache but clear and not too weak. After four hours at whole foods on my feet I walked home (10 blocks or so) and by the time I arrived I was exhausted. My masseuse came over to help release the toxins in the muscles and to make the headache go away. The massage was great and relaxing leaving my body warm and buzzing with energy but the headache was still there.

I am so hungry and want to eat everything I see, with the exception of meat. The thought of flesh right now makes me want to hurl. I am also rather low energy today as my body is releasing some toxic shit no doubt. Overall I'd say I am pretty healthy. I consumed the usual, lots of H20 and herbal teas.

Not bad for day 3

Day Two

Slight headache and sudden tiredness came over me.
I went to the gym today and did some yoga. Taking it pretty easy. Surprisingly good energy level. Consumed mass amounts of water and herbal tea all day and dealt with the ebb and flow of hunger pangs.

I did notice that during my massage today my skin felt extra sensitive. No major headaches yet, so feeling pretty clean.

Day One

I decided to do a 40 day fast.

It came about for spiritual reasons as well as the desire to deeply cleanse the body.

As an active person this is a bit of a challenge to undertake but I decided it was time to go deeper than my last cleanse which was three weeks on watermelon and a minimal amount of raw foods. All my previous cleanses were anywhere from 7 days to two weeks using medicinal plants and eating an organic vegan diet.

I am backtracking here as I am already on day five of my fast and only just decided to blog it.

Day one was easy, I was hungry most of the day but it was not too bad. Drank a lot of lemon water and herbal teas with my normal activity level.
